I run Showgirl Press, a one-girl print studio based in Waynesville, NC. I create limited editions of linocuts, woodcuts, collagraphs, and monoprints that explore flamboyance, glamour, excess, and attitude. Leaning into the camp sensibilities found in popular culture and everyday life, my work often highlights the humour, drama, and mock-glamour that come with embracing “too much.”
For this exhibition, I’m presenting a portrait of my third great-grandfather, Israell Wid Medford—a master bear hunter, storyteller, and legendary character of the Balsams. Through my own camp-infused lens, I celebrate his outsized presence while connecting my family’s history with my ongoing fascination with personality and performance.
