Elise Okrend is a pastel artist who creates her landscapes from observations of the natural world and the beauty it evokes. She captures a simple scene and transcends the ordinary into a work of vibrant beauty with a healing presence. Her desire is to foster a sense of peace and calmness for the viewer.
After an established career in advertising and greeting card design, Elise returned to her first love of fine art and attracted the attention of hospitals with the healing nature of her work. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Medical and Mission Health Care.
Elise’s art has been selected for many juried shows and her art can be seen in private residences, corporate offices and fine galleries. Elise’s most recent creation is a hardcover book, Messages to
the Heart, Reflections of Beauty and Truth, which pairs 45 of her pastel paintings with her husband’s inspirational passages. Elise’s love of the mountains of North Carolina led her to her current working studio and gallery in the Wedge Studios in Asheville’s River Arts District.
