My mother and husband have both called me a drama queen. So it makes sense that my studio has a cigarette/bourbon bottle shrine to Jackson Pollock and blues music jamming in the background. It’s also why intuitive abstract expressionist art is what excites me. To be able to evoke emotion from viewers with something I create from deep within me, is so amazing. These are visuals that I did not know existed until they appear on my canvas. To me, that work is more powerful than work that’s representational in nature.

I’m known for the fusion of color and energy. Two important elements to me because I’m legally blind; another continuing drama in my life… I use a variety of acrylics, India ink, cattle markers, paint sticks, graphite, and spray paint. I’m known to fabricate paint brushes from twigs and leaves or take a metal grinder to my canvas. I use play and experimentation, which reveal a point of balance and mystery. I strive to create work with great stopping power that speaks to me in the end. My blindness has transformed my work and I use my daily painting on my farm outside of Asheville as my creative outlet.
