Currently based in Savannah, GA, Courtney is a mixed media abstract collage artist drawn to found materials, texture, transformation, deconstruction and the delicious ambiguity of not knowing exactly what you’re looking at.
Whether it’s a color combination on a poster, the striking beauty and composition of urban decay, organic shapes found in the sand, etc. she collects these moments and literal found objects like puzzle pieces, later weaving them into her creative process. She collects things most would consider as spent (things like fluorescent light covers, resin scraps, odds and ends on the street, discarded billboard posters) and instead of disguising their history, she tries to elevate it. She loves the philosophy of transformation and what remains after change.
Her abstract collage began 17 years ago while living as a professional dancer in Los Angeles. As a former dancer, she carries that movement and rhythm into her visual work. Courtney leans toward creating compositions of juxtaposition; the structure of choreography alongside the freedom of improvisation and/or the idea of fragmentation and belonging existing at the same time.
