“Nature has always fed my soul, for as long as I can remember. This connection has been, and continues to be, the primary inspiration for my paintings. I often begin with plein air studies and photos, then take this all back to the studio to see where my next painting experience leads me. There is nothing to substitute for actually being out in nature with all of my senses alive, working quickly to capture the true essence of the scene before me, with light and atmosphere changing before my eyes”.
After working in graphic design, illustration, and a long career in teaching high school art, Claire Simpson Jones has shifted her focus back to full time painting. Claire’s sensitive naturalist paintings draw from her many travels abroad and a lifetime of finding refuge and comfort in the raw beauty of our planet.
Claire Simpson Jones holds a BFA from Florida Atlantic University and has studied art at Ontario College of Art and California College of Art. She is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, and a member of the Southern Watercolor Society and several nature organizations.
