Tina Gwata Vincent is an award-winning artist from Zimbabwe. She has had her work exhibited throughout North Carolina and beyond. Her work can be found in the homes of collectors all over the country. Her journey as an artist began in her childhood, where she was inspired by the natural beauty surrounding her. Living in the Dominican Republic as a girl she loved the bright colored architecture and traditional crafts that sparked her interest in art. The stories told through visual language have always fascinated her, and she strived to carry that tradition forward in her work.

Tina’s home studio is filled with an array of materials like, fabric, decorative paper, paints, and each waiting to be transformed into something extraordinary. On a given day you may catch her experimenting with cyanotypes on fabric and creating intricate textured wall hangings or collages. Tina’s mixed media works are not only a feast for the eyes but also provoke thought and conversation. She believes that art should be accessible and relatable, and she often incorporates elements that resonate with her audience’s cultural backgrounds

Tina is best known for her “Women of Color” paper mâché sculptures that are influenced by the interconnectedness and the importance of community. Her work features women of different skin tones, and shapes; a celebration of their diverse beauty and traits. It represents the support system women create through friendships as women of color. Her sculptures and mixed media pieces are a demonstration of a beauty that was once overlooked, and the solidarity and strength that women of color have embraced by supporting one another. Her work acts as a statement of how beauty is no longer dependent on western ideals that created a hierarchy of beauty based on skin tones and body types. Many of her sculptures exude a joy and confidence that cannot be missed. The sense of community among her sculptures is more visible and powerful as a collective, and a reminder of the strength woman have when they come together.
