Matthew Martin creates Constructivist-inspired abstract sculptures using industrial machine tools, including CNC lathes and milling machines. Working from his garage studio in Anderson, South Carolina, Martin applies the same precision machining techniques used in his primary business of crafting custom fountain pens to the creation of his sculptures.

Through precise machining and careful assembly, Martin transforms metal into geometric forms that are joined into structures emphasizing proportion, balance, and visual rhythm. His work draws primarily from the Suprematist and Constructivist movements, with inspiration from artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Vladimir Tatlin.

Exclusively self-taught since graduating from a high school CAD/CAM program in 2013, Martin has developed a distinctive practice at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, industrial technology, and fine art. He is also recognized as a pioneer in the use of anodized titanium within representational fine art, exploring the material’s distinctive color and surface qualities as an integral part of his sculptural language.
Martin is represented by Art & Light Gallery in Greenville, South Carolina.
