Tar Heel Art

From the Outer Banks to the Blue Ridge
Exhibit on Display from May 1 - June 15, 2025

What Does it Mean to Be Tar Heel?

From the deep roots of North Carolina’s early industries—tar, pitch, and turpentine—to the grit and resilience that earned its people their name, this exhibit showcases artwork exploring the heritage, culture, and identity of our state. Whether through history, landscapes, personal narratives, or bold new interpretations, this juried exhibit invites artists to reflect on what being a Tar Heel means to them.
