Paget Marion Blythe works in acrylic, mixed media and collage. The tension between abstraction, texture and assemblage of meaning underlies her recent paintings. Paget is a self-taught artist who earned her degrees in Comparative Literature with a focus on 19th century Aestheticism. Her work considers our experience of the world as an ever shifting collage of visual information that forms identity. Many of her recent works are explorations of the concept of excavation; painted and collaged layers are physically manipulated, torn and/or removed to allow for destructive revelations in the composition. Paget currently lives in central North Carolina, exhibits her work in galleries throughout the Southeastern United States and partners with interior designers for commissions and licensing of her original works.
