Denise Markbreit is a printmaker and mixed media artist working in Asheville. She is the founder of Print House, a community based printmaking gallery, studio and maker space offering classes and workshop based in printmaking. Formerly known as Asheville Print Studio + Gallery in the RAD prior to Helene, the studio is ‘green’- using only soy based water soluble inks and no solvents for clean up. Using safer practices has safeguarded her health as well as all who enter for workshops, classes and art viewing. Working in an assortment of print techniques including Linoleum and woodblock, low tech screen print, Mokuhanga, Mokulito, gelli plates, solar plate, mono print Denise creates mixed media works on paper, panel and fabric.

Markbreit has shown in many local galleries and juried shows. She is currently represented by The Gallery at Flat Rock. Her work is held in collections worldwide.

Denise, a native New Yorker arrived in Asheville in 2017 after retiring as a NYC public school art teacher of 32 years. Called a natural educator, her passion to educate students of all ages in the art of printmaking continues to be strong. She has given numerous child, teen and adult workshops in printmaking across the country including at School of Visual Arts, The National Art League in NY, the Grove Park Inn National Arts and Crafts Conference amongst others.

Denise holds a BFA from School of Visual Arts and an MST from Rochester Institute of Technology.
